Research Interests
Dr. Gerry Uswak received his DMD from the University of Manitoba in 1989, his MPH from the University of North Carolina in 1992, and a diploma in Dental Public Health from the North Carolina Division of Dental Health in 1993. Additionally, he completed a General Practice Residency at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, MB, in 1990.
He joined the College of Dentistry as an associate professor in 2005. Shortly thereafter, he became acting dean for a period of two years and then went on to serve as dean until August 2017. He teaches dental practice management and maintains a dental public health consulting practice.
Dr. Uswak has practiced in various locations including Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Bolivia. His clinical practice was primarily hospital-based pediatric dentistry. Prior to joining the college, Dr. Uswak was CEO of the Inuvik Regional Health and Social Services Authority.
He is a past-president of the Canadian Association of Public Health Dentistry and a member of the College of Dental Surgeons of Saskatchewan Quality Assurance Committee.
Dr. Uswak's research interests include dental public health policy and program planning.
