Dr. Lais Landim Gomes is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Endodontics. She holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, in addition to an MSc in Endodontics and PhD in Prosthodontics & Dental Materials from São Paulo State University (UNESP), Brazil, along with a clinical specialty in Endodontics, from the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil.

In her academic career, she used a multidisciplinary approach to develop biomaterials for application in Endodontic therapy.

She started her research in Endodontics to enhance the antimicrobial, biocompatibility, and adhesive properties of an endodontic sealer, with supported funding from FAPESP (Sao Paulo Research Foundation). Further in her Master’s program, she studied the apical extrusion of sodium hypochlorite and its impact on the cleaning of root canal and biological properties.

During her Ph.D. Dr. Gomes worked on the rehabilitation of endodontically treated teeth with an innovative photopolymerization device associated with a hollow glass fiber post. This research received many awards in different conferences such as the Brazilian Group of Dental Materials (GBMD) and, the XXXV Scientific Initiation Conference of Sao Paulo State University (UNESP).

Dr. Gomes concluded her Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the Biomedical Engineering Department at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. This training provided her expertise in cardiovascular research and the development of biomaterials for medical care.

She has published manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and has been successful in obtaining research funding such as the recent provincial financial support from Fonds de Recherche du Québec during her postdoctoral program.

Dr. Gomes research line focuses on the development of biomaterials for application in endodontic therapy, the association between systemic diseases and endodontic treatment outcomes, and the oral rehabilitation of endodontically treated teeth.
