USask researcher developing saliva-based COVID-19 test

Dr. Walter Siqueira (DDS, PhD) professor and associate dean at the University of Saskatchewan College of Dentistry is currently developing a saliva-based COVID-19 test.

Dr. Walter Siqueira leads the USask Salivary Proteomics Research Laboratory, one of only a few labs in the world focused on applied salivary research. As an international leader in salivary research, Siqueira, along with his research team, are working to develop a saliva-based test for COVID-19.

A reporter with CBC spoke with Siqueira during a recent news report that discussed the future of COVID-19 testing. During this interview Siqueira talked about his progress in developing a saliva-based COVID-19 test that individuals could use at home and said that the test will work similar to a pregnancy test and will give accurate results within an hour.

More information about this project can be found in the news release from USask Research Profile and Impact.
