Clinic renovation update

A vision for the future

Clinic renovation brings modernization and leading-edge technology

The $24-million renovation project is revitalizing the College of Dentistry’s clinic, pre-clinic, and reception areas. Launched on January 6, 2025, this historic initiative is modernizing our facilities to enhance student learning and elevate the patient experience. In addition to significant physical upgrades, the project includes a comprehensive overhaul of equipment in both the clinic and pre-clinic spaces.

As part of this transformation, the College has invested in state-of-the-art dental equipment designed to reflect the latest in modern dental practice.

ALL NEW: New treatment chairs, delivery units, and advanced simulation stations offer students hands-on training with the same tools they will use in the profession.

The integration of digital radiography, intraoral scanners and cameras, and updated sterilization systems supports a more efficient, safe, and patient-centered environment. These upgrades not only enrich the quality of clinical education but also ensure patients receive care in a comfortable, technologically-advanced setting.

Pre-clinic reconstruction

One of the most transformative components of this renovation is the creation of a centralized learning hub that brings together key educational resources under one roof. At the heart of this vision is the relocation of the pre-clinic simulation laboratories from the Health Sciences Building to the basement of the main Clinic Building.

In preparation for this move, the basement was fully cleared during the summer and fall of 2024, giving us a blank slate from which to completely reimagine the space. Over the next nine months, the area was transformed into the preclinical facility, equipped with the latest simulation technology and modern design features to support immersive, hands-on learning.

In October 2025, students began utilizing the new preclinic and experiencing firsthand how these updates enrich their training. The relocation not only enhances accessibility and efficiency but also integrates preclinical and clinical learning within one primary dental education space, strengthening the connection between simulation, practice, and patient care.

Clinic Reconstruction

Progress on the clinifloor has been equally transformative. In January, to minimize disruption when the renovations began, enclosed workspaces were constructed so work could proceed during the academic term. Full-scale demolition and reconstruction ramped up at the end of winter term and proceeded through the summer.

Everything from floor to ceiling was removed, creating a complete rebuild. Students now have a fresh, bright, and modern clinical environment, thoughtfully designed to enhance both the learning and patient care experience.
The reimagined space features new operatories equipped with advanced technology and improved ergonomics, creating an atmosphere that mirrors contemporary dental practice.

The result is a vibrant, welcoming clinic that reflects the college’s ongoing commitment to excellence in dental education and patient service.

At the end of October 2025, new operatories were fully operational welcoming students and patients into the future of dental care. Work on the remaining phases continue behind protective hording walls and expected to be complete by March 2026.

Reception reconstruction

renoThe reception area and patient waiting room also experienced a dramatic renewal. The entire space was completely gutted to allow for a full reconstruction from the ground up.

With its bright, open design and improved flow, the new reception area creates an inviting first impression that reflects the professionalism and warmth of the College of Dentistry.
