Prospective students will learn admission requirements, program details, and career opportunities during the online session.

For the first time, the University of Saskatchewan (USask) College of Dentistry will host an online information session to introduce prospective students to its Dental Assisting program. The virtual event, scheduled for Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 5:00 PM via Zoom, is designed to support applicants ahead of the November 1 application deadline for the Fall 2026 intake.

The session will give future applicants an inside look at the 10-month program, which is a direct-entry option from high school and admits only 50 students each year. The program prepares graduates to work as part of a dental team.

“This is a great opportunity for students, parents, and anyone interested in the program to connect directly with us,” said Theresa Donald, Program Director. “We’ll go over everything from prerequisites and program costs to what a typical day looks like as a dental assisting student.”

Session highlights

Participants in the information night will learn about:

  • Admission requirements, including necessary high school courses.
  • Program costs and financial considerations.
  • Curriculum details, from classroom learning to clinical training.
  • The role of dental assistants in the profession.
  • A live question-and-answer session with program faculty.

Donald noted that the online format is a first for the College of Dentistry’s Dental Assisting program.

“We’re excited to make it easier for students across the province and beyond to join us,” she said. “This format allows us to reach people who might not otherwise be able to attend an in-person event.”

Application deadline approaching

Applications for the Fall 2026 intake are due by November 1, 2025. Donald encourages prospective students to take advantage of the session to prepare their applications and learn whether the program is a good fit.

“Dental assisting is more than just a job—it’s a career that combines technical skill, teamwork, and patient care,” Donald said. “Our graduates leave confident, prepared, and in demand across Saskatchewan and beyond.”
