The College of Dentistry is home to dedicated professionals who bring diverse ethnicity, backgrounds, experiences and expertise to their roles. Among them is Danica Mitchell, the Executive Assistant to the Dean, whose journey from Jamaica to Canada has been marked by academic excellence, professional growth, and a passion for supporting leadership.
Danica Mitchell hails from the vibrant island of Jamaica. She completed her undergraduate studies in Political Science at the University of the West Indies in 2011, followed by a master’s degree in marketing from Edinburgh Napier University in the United Kingdom in 2018. After spending her entire life in Jamaica, she made the bold decision to move to Canada in 2023, drawn by the country’s opportunities and the encouragement of friends who had already made the move.
A Strong Professional Background
Before joining the College of Dentistry, Danica built an impressive professional portfolio. She worked as a Legal Assistant at a law firm in downtown Saskatoon. In Jamaica, she held roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers, one of the world’s leading audit firms, as an Executive Assistant. Prior to that, she gained experience at the oldest law firm in Jamaica as a Legal Assistant. Her extensive administrative and legal background provided her with the skills necessary to excel in her current role.
On April 1, 2024, Danica became a part of the College of Dentistry, stepping into the role of Executive Assistant to the Dean. In this capacity, she provides vital administrative support, managing the Dean’s engagements with faculty, university administrators, and external stakeholders. Additionally, she plays a key role in organizing meetings and events, ensuring the smooth operation of the Dean’s office.
Achievements and Memorable Moments
Danica takes great pride in her academic achievements, particularly earning her master’s degree while working full-time. This discipline and commitment have translated into her professional life. Since joining the College, one of her proudest achievements has been organizing the mock accreditation exercise in November 2024. The experience provided her with the confidence and expertise needed for the upcoming accreditation site visit in April 2025.
For Danica, the most satisfying part of her job is receiving positive feedback from staff and faculty. Knowing that her work is valued and appreciated motivates her to continue excelling in her role. Looking ahead, she aspires to contribute to the growth and success of the College while consistently exceeding expectations.
A Fun Side to Danica
Outside of work, Danica enjoys unwinding with her favorite sitcom, King of Queens—a show she watches daily. This lighthearted passion reflects her ability to balance professionalism with personal enjoyment. Plus, she is a history buff! When she travels, she makes it a priority to visit a museum whenever she’s in a new country.
Danica Mitchell’s journey is an inspiring testament to perseverance, adaptability, and dedication. The College of Dentistry is fortunate to have her as a key member of its team, contributing to its success with her skills and enthusiasm.
